Although generally thought of as a strictly medical necessity procedure, ultrasound is effective in achieving considerable non-invasive skin lifting and tightening, by targeting the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). This is predominantly successful treating sagging facial and neck skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles, and of the décolleté. Those best suited to this treatment have mild to moderate loose or sagging skin. The benefit of this non-surgical treatment is that most patients can return immediately to their normal activities.
Possible adverse symptoms resulting from treatment include occasional bruising, transient erythema and edema. Often, the full effect of treatment is not visible for about three to six months following the procedure. While one treatment is usually sufficient, some patients require three or more sessions to achieve their goal.
